Welcome to our May edition of 5 Useful Things. In these mid monthly emails we share with you 5 useful things we have come across during our work and personal time that we hope you will enjoy.

1. Something To Read

Future Homes Standard

Just in case you missed the latest announcements around the Future Homes Standard, this guide is a useful place to start. It pulls together clear information on the new requirements for new homes in England, including carbon reduction targets, low carbon heating, solar PV and the transition timeline.

2. Something to Explore

Orchard House by Studio Bark

Orchard House by Studio Bark is well worth a look. It is a thoughtful rural home designed under Paragraph 84, with silvery larch cladding, orchard restoration and a simple environmental strategy that makes it an interesting project to explore in more detail.

3. Something Useful

Where's the Path

Where’s The Path is a really handy mapping tool that lets you compare an OS map alongside satellite imagery, making it much easier to pinpoint locations and read the map more accurately. It is simple, practical and well worth trying if you have not used it before.

4. Something to Browse

Alliance for Sustainable Building Products

The Alliance for Sustainable Building Products case studies are worth browsing if you are looking for real project examples across topics such as natural materials, retrofit, reuse, Passivhaus and mass timber. There is a good range here, so it is a useful resource for ideas and reference.

5. Something Fun

Colour Scheme Generator

Need a bit of colour inspiration? Coolors is a quick and easy palette generator that lets you play around with colour combinations and export your chosen palette once you have found something that works.
